Snapbyte.dev is a side project based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the Snapbyte.dev website and services.

Information We Collect

We collect only the information needed to operate Snapbyte.dev:

  • Account details such as your name, email address, and authentication identifiers from sign-in providers.
  • Digest preferences such as selected sources, tags, schedules, and delivery settings.
  • Digest email engagement: whether a digest email was delivered, bounced, or opened, and which digest items you opened from it.
  • Security data like IP address logs for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

How We Use Information

  • Provide and maintain your Snapbyte.dev account.
  • Deliver your configured digests.
  • Measure how digests are read so we can make them more useful.
  • Send account-related emails such as verification or resets.
  • Protect against fraud, abuse, and security issues.
  • Understand aggregate product usage and site traffic. We use Plausible Analytics for cookie-free traffic measurement and Google Analytics when you accept analytics cookies.

Cookies

Snapbyte.dev uses functional cookies required for authentication. We also use Plausible Analytics, served through Snapbyte.dev, for cookie-free aggregate traffic measurement. Digest emails load a small image to detect opens, and links in digest emails pass through Snapbyte.dev to record which items were opened; neither uses cookies. If you accept analytics cookies, we additionally enable Google Analytics cookies to understand site usage in more detail. If you reject analytics cookies, Google Analytics stays disabled.

Chrome Extension

The Snapbyte.dev Chrome extension shows your latest digest on Chrome's new tab page. It works as follows:

  • It reads your digests and digest settings from Snapbyte.dev using your existing Snapbyte.dev sign-in, and sends requests only to Snapbyte.dev.
  • It stores your latest digest, which digests you have seen or read, and your extension settings such as colors and pausing in Chrome's local storage on your device. This data is not sent to us.
  • When you turn on most visited sites, the extension reads them from Chrome to show them on the new tab page. They never leave your device.
  • The search box passes your search to your default search engine through Chrome. We do not see your searches.
  • It does not read your browsing history or the content of pages you visit, and it does not use analytics or cookies of its own.

Removing the extension deletes the data it stored on your device.

Sharing and Service Providers

We share information only with providers needed to operate the service, such as authentication platforms (Google or GitHub when you choose them), analytics providers including Plausible and Google Analytics, and email delivery services. We do not sell personal data.

Data Retention

We keep account data while your account is active. You can request deletion at any time by contacting us.

Your Rights

If you are in the UK or EEA, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data and to object to processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including secure authentication and access controls.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the effective date when changes are made.
